2008/01/08 – 03:00pm
All three of us went to the same German Beer House and ordered more Beer and omelet.
Finished it and started roaming around Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok on foot.
2008/01/08 – 02:00pm.
We suspected some kind of scam, yet desided to go to the shopping center to check it out.
We say lots of jewellery with precious and semi precious stones with 30% discount and stuffs like that.
Neither of us had any idea about stones and we did not buy any thing and returned back to the hotel room.
I gave the tuk tuk wala a 20 Baht currency and he immediately hugged me and thanked me for the 10 Baht tip. That is a nice way of demanding tips.
Never mind, for 20 Baht, we had fun for more than a hour.
2008/01/08 – 01:00pm
We were not sure if the 10 dollar he is asking for is US$ or Thai Baht.
10 Thai Baht sounded very less while 10 USD sounder very high. He then proceeded to write the travel itinerary and cost in a paper and gave it to us. It was 10 Thai Baht only.
We decided to take the trip.
2008/01/08 – 12:00pm
Unsuccessful in our attempt, we decided to have another stroll.
We then went to another bar and ordered more beer.
2008/01/08 – 11:00am
Time to check out Mr. Laurel.
2008/01/08 – 10:00am
The hotel room was simply superb.
We started deliberating as to if we should shower and go for a breakfast or just brush and go for a breakfast.
Mr. Laurel started sleeping midway. Guess all the business class wine had its toll on him.
2008/01/08 – 09:00am
Got a Taxi for 400 Thai Baht and left for Hotel Grand President.
The freeway which connects the Bangkok city with the airport is simply great. I don't think we have any such freeways in India.
I was nothing short of shell shocked to see such amazing infrastructure in Thailand since I was informed that Road travel is dangerous in Thailand.
It is still true that Road travel in Thailand is kind of dangerous since human life is not that values in 3rd world countries. Just like India. Yet, the trafic was well organized and the drivers seems to follow lane discipline pretty well.
I really enjoyed the ride.
2008/01/08 – 08:00am
Finished Visa, Immigration and Customs formalities, and came out of the airport. Now time for another smoke break and time to negotiate for Taxi.
2008/01/08 – 06:00am
The airport is simply amazing. I was amazed to see such a huge airport in Thailand.
Came out and found a smoking bar and relaxed for a while.
2008/01/08 – 01:00am
Free drinks and food from in-flight menu. Time to drink and sleep.
Prof. Snape has a couple of drinks, ate what ever was served and slept like a log.
Dr. Grumpy did like wise.
Mr. Laurel was so happy that he was served with Business class wine and kept on drinking glass after glass for the entire flight duration.
2008/01/07 – 11:00pm
Finished check in, security and the flight was delayed by about 45 minutes. Now what to do?
One of Dr. Grumpy’s friend was in the check in queue and he was also going to Bangkok. Good to have a person who knows Bangkok.
Dr. Grumpy took us to a Master Card Lounge and we got 4 free drinks for the 4 master cards we had. Now we need more drinks. What to do?
Dr. Grumpy is here to help again. He took us again to another Lounge which served beer for money and let us smokes. Great. Another round of beer, another round of smoke and now all settled to board the flight.
2008/01/07 – 9:45pm
Reached Le Royal Meridian and Prof. Snape ordered double large vodka to cool his nerves.
Finished the drinks, setteled the bill and started walking out.
Mr. Laurel got a call from Thai Airways announcing that the flight has been cancelled due to a bomb blast at Bangkok airport and directed him to meet Thai Airways officials in the airport for further instructions.
Mr. Laurel got another call from his friend that Sun TV is broadcasting live footage of the blast.
Prof. Snape called his home to conform the news and found out that it was a hoax.
It turns out that Mr. Laurel’s friend was playing pranks on him.
2008/01/07 - 8pm
We have collected the photos about 15 minutes ago and reached Mr. Laurel’s home. This is my first visit there and after formal intro, I helped Mr. Laurel in finalizing his packing and started to have dinner there.
Called the cabbie to pick us at 8:80 pm and he promised to do it then…
It is 8:45, still no cabbie … I was getting tensed.
Dr. Grumpy called and said he is in Le Royal Meridian.
Cabbie arrived and I yelled at him for being late. He got annoyed and started driving as if he has arranged a very important appointment in HELL. Mr. Laurel was soo terrified that he stopped breathing for sometime.
Called Dr. Grumpy and asked him to wait at Le Royal Meridian and that we will pick him there.
2008/01/07 - 7pm
Got a call from Dr. Grumpy stating that we need photos for visa on arrival at Thailand. How great that we have happily missed this vital piece of information.
Now, it is time to run to the nearest Kodak center and take photos.
We showed the Kodak guy about photo requirements for Thailand and said, we need photos in half an hour. He asked why we need it so urgently as no embassies will be open now. I said, we are flying to Thailand is in a couple of hours and we need to leave for the airport. You should have see the "You crazy guys" look he gave us before he took us for the photo shoot.

Introduction to this blog
This blog captures the traversal of 3 Makaans from India to Thailand and finally reaching Macau and then back to their dull and dreary life in India. (Chennai to be exact)
Yes, 3 Makaans who take this arduous path just for a single purpose. GAMBLING. Well, that was why this plan was planned initially. However, as the saying goes " Man plans, God Laughs" due to the over shooting of their initial estimated budget, it's very unlikely that their sole purpose for this expedition, so to speak, will ever see the light of day :D.
I am the fortunate soul who had to opt out of this so called "expedition" due to various reasons. I'll be the enabler for these Makaans to capture their laborious and uncomfortable experiences. The reason I use the word laborious and uncomfortable here is because, apart from the tickets to the specified places and a minuscule amount of currency these guys have nothing planned to the tee. Though I know for a fact that no matter what, these guys will enjoy and probably be ecstatic by the time they return back, I still hope they are do not have a tough time out there arranging for accommodations.
Yes, they have not planned or booked any accommodations. Intelligent, aren't they. Yes they are, if they weren't don't think I'd be proud to call them my Compatriots let alone my friends.
Okay getting back to the serious matter in hand:
Travel date and times:
- They left for the Chennai Airport on 7th January 2008 around 8pm.
- Their flight to Bangkok, Thailand (I think this is where they are headed ) was scheduled to depart at 00:15 on 8th January 2008.
As luck would have it, the flight was delayed by 45 minutes. Quite an ominous start, don't you think :). Anyways they are yet to get back to me on their current whereabouts. When they do or if at all they do, will update this on my own. Most probably I'll pass the baton to them so that they would be able to honor us with their progress in their own words. And I don't expect too many words, however I do expect lots of letters :D, just for the sole reason that there will be a lot of slurred and blurred escapades.
Eitherways, I wish them a Bon Voyage and hope they have a blast to kick start the new year.
Cheers,
S!
